Director, Shalom Counseling Program
Shalom means PEACE. It also means ALL THAT IS GOOD, I GIVE
TO YOU.
My name is Sandy Hart. I am the Director of the Shalom
Counseling Program. The meaning of Shalom and living that meaning is what
attracted me to Shalom. At the Counseling Program we give emotional
support to children, adolescents and adults who want to feel better and do
better in their lives. Underlying causes can be emotional,
circumstantial, school issues, family issues, addiction related, etc. I
have a caring and dedicated staff who help us live the
meaning of Shalom.

Supervisor
Adults in the Making Program
Our staff
recognizes the pressures, influences and confusion teens experience. The
support we offer each student is without judgment, always looking to and
planning for the future. Our work stresses the importance of students
completing their high school education as well as continuing education whether
it is college, trade school or tech school.

Prevention & Intervention
The
Prevention and Intervention Program is a multifaceted program that
offers adolescents a safe and confidential setting where they discuss
issues that concern them. The student receives an invitation or request
participation in a group and/or in an individual session. Shalom
promotes resiliency in youth and encourages the adolescent to participate in
leadership/mentoring programs. The Prevention/Specialist consults and/or
sponsors SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), a state wide prevention
effort in most high schools. Shalom personnel is active in SAP (Student
Assistance Program) which identifies and assist students who are experiencing
some barrier to learning.

Supervisor Grade School Programs
When I
first had my interview with Shalom, I wasn't quite sure what Shalom was
all about. Not until I started teaching the curriculum did I fully
realize the importance of these programs. Our specialists provide
students with facts. Most importantly they teach and practice the skills the
students need to resist tobacco, alcohol and other drugs and to solve
interpersonal conflicts. The goals of our prevention programs are to
instill in the students the desire to take care of themselves and their bodies
in a positive, healthy way and to use their skills to deal with conflicts and
avoid situations that may cause harm to themselves or others.
