Student Assistance Program

Student Assistance Program

“The Commonwealth’s Student Assistance Program is designed to assist school personnel to identify issues, including alcohol, drugs and other, which pose a barrier to a student’s learning and school success." (from Pennsylvania’s Basic Education Circular 24 P.S. 15-1547)

Pennsylvania mandates and supports the Student Assistance Program (SAP) in all public schools in the Commonwealth. It is strongly recommended that non-public schools have a functioning SAP team as well. SAP was begun in Pennsylvania in the mid-1980’s. Shalom, Inc. recognized that this program had the potential to help our children and participated in the program from the beginning. Shalom has also been a state approved provider of SAP training since the state opened training to private providers. At the high school level, our specialists assist in facilitating SAP teams and act in an advisory capacity. Shalom also provides SAP Assessment services to Philadelphia public, non-public and charter schools.

Shalom provides two to three SAP Trainings per year at our Delaware Avenue location. Onsite trainings can be scheduled by contacting Susan Yackel.
